Yarra River Night View Southgate Promenade
St. Francis Catholic Church, on Lonsdale and Elizabeth
River view from St. Kilda Rd.

Well, my winning streak with the new recipes turned sour tonight when I discovered that the special sauce I was going to make with our penne pasta required a blender and a certain kind of capiscum. I had never even heard of capiscums until last week- when another recipe called for them. Basically it's a red bell pepper, but capiscum is so much more delightful to say a bunch of times. Capiscum, capiscum, capiscum...They don't sound or look very appetizing, but they are. Anyway, turns out for roasted red pepper sauce you need 'fire-roasted' capiscums, and I got 'marinated' capiscums. I asked Mark, how different could they be? We also didn't have a blender or food processor, but hey, I was just going to stir all the ingredients really really hard. I even had fresh basil ready to chop. But...lesson learned. I need to read through the entire recipe before shopping for ingredients and ensure we have the right tools for the job. I rushed down to the convenience store a block away and bought some ready-made sauce. If anyone knows what to do with a jar of 'marinated' capiscums, please let me know...

I went out wandering and tried taking some 'night' photos. There is a special setting on my Canon A530 for that, so I used it, but really don't know anything about photography so some turned out okay, some didn't. But I'm posting them anyway. It gets dark here about 6:00 p.m. now, but is still pretty warm outside. It has been in the 70's during the day. I went swimming this morning (our building has an indoor pool) and had the pool mostly to myself. I really love water, so it's nice to be swimming again (although I'm not sure floating on my back and doing handstands in the pool exactly counts). The pool water is salt water, so it is different when you accidentally get a mouthful. Since our trip to the Aquarium, I'm inspired to visit the Great Barrier Reef at some point and do some snorkling and/or diving.

I like the Southgate Promenade shot...it looks like something out of Blade Runner. :)

Thanks, J! :) So, why are all my night shots blurry, and is there a way to prevent it?

My favorite way to use marinated capsicums are on bruchetta. Take some crusty French bread, add a layer of pesto or goat cheese or mozzarella and a layer of capsicums (and mix it up with some sun-dried tomatoes if you have them) and broil until everything is toasty.
They are also good in salads, I cut them up and put them with artichoke hearts and olives (other marinated things) and tomatoes in penne, and they are quite tasty in omelettes/frittatas (although the non-marinated ones are better for that)

When you set your camera to Night mode (or whatever it's called), it makes the shutter speed slower, so it's very sensitive to any kind of movement. The best thing I can suggest is to either invest in a little tripod, or place the camera on a stable, flat surface that hopefully is available wherever you plan to take your photo. Then set your camera to Night mode and self timer mode as well. Click the shutter button and wait however many seconds the self timer takes to go off. Hopefully that helps...
