Time to Par-tay
I'm officially on summer break after turning in my last assignment today. So time to party- though hopefully not like this. My celebration will probably involve a good dinner and a film, or if I get really motivated, perhaps a club with live music. And if this afternoon is any indication, I'll be spending my more of my free time reading books like this or this one. And, or course, continuing to explore Melbourne. Hooray for summer! (which is actually winter here...)

While you are reading enjoyable books, I highly recommend "Her Fork in the Road" edited by Lisa Bach, a collection of essays by women writing about eating and traveling. In the introduction the editor is so thrilled with a meal while travelling alone that other restaurant patrons offer to take her photograph. Your earlier lunch images reminded me of that.
The essays themselves are mixed, but all are short and many are thought provoking.
I just returned from a trip to Ecuador and have been giving lots of thought to travelling, tourism, home, food, and how cool my husband is. It was delightful to read your thoughts on some of the same issues.
I'm not sure if Bruce Chatwin's Songlines in considered horribly cliched in Australia, but please let me know if you do read it, as I would love to discuss it with someone (you can read my review on sparkling squirrel).
Enjoy your break!
Cool, Sparkling Squirrel, thanks for recommending "Fork in the Road"- I was able to find it at the library yesterday. The Chatwin book is now on my reading list, too!
