Jewelry & Melbourne Art

Painting by Nicole Rose-"Melbourne"

Here are three more recent creations of mine...the double-stranded necklace is a new attempt...I got the idea from looking at some jewelry at the local Sunday Arts Market, very similar to Portland's Saturday Market. We purchased a few pieces of art to take home from local Melbourne artists on Sunday (see above). It's really great to be able to talk with the artists themselves, and buy it directly from them. It will be a cool reminder of our time here.

I love the necklace with the trapezoidal glass in the center, it reminds me very much of a turquoise piece from Tibet that was given to my mother several years ago. It is really quite lovely, as is the two-strand necklace.

Also, the graffiti is interesting, some of it is amazingly detailed and truly artistic. This is something that my ex and I disagreed deeply on, he saw no artistic merit in any type of graffiti, no matter the content... though I was disappointed to find that tagging was so prevalent in Berlin, I had thought it a purely American phenomenon. I guess some behaviors are universal, like marking your territory.

Thanks, that is one of my favorites, too and I have another turquoise glass piece so will make another one, maybe slightly different design. I think that graffiti can definately go beyond vandalism- and its valuable on a few different levels- as art, as social commentary, etc.
